Obviate

verb: to prevent, to make unnecessary

Remove (a need or difficulty): "the Venetian blinds obviated the need for curtains".
Avoid; prevent: "a parachute can obviate disaster".

The river was shallow enough to wade across at many points, which obviated the need for a bride.

I obviate my engine from exploding by getting my oil changed regularly in my car.
